Since the 2001 on the first Friday of each month a meal has been provided for the homeless at the St Francis House on behalf of the "Muslim Community of Gainesville".  Radiant Hands has participated in these dinners since our establishment, but Jean Ritch will no longer be chairing the coordination of these dinners and so we are looking for someone in the community to take over this task. It is the sincere hope of Radiant Hands that this worthy endeavor will be able to continue, even if it is at a reduced frequency. Perhaps you would like to help by coordinating just one dinner during the year? Pease contact admin@radianthands.org if you would like to volunteer for this task.

Thank you to those in the community who have consistently supported this effort in the past. We appreciate all those individuals and families who lent their finances, time and effort to this worthy cause.

3. ST. FRANCIS HOUSE: St Francis House dinner on Friday 2 nd of May at 6:00pm. to feed 40 hungry people. We have sisters preparing chicken, and are in need rice or pasta, vegetable or salad. A sister provides fresh fruit each month. The cost for a meal is approximately $6.25 per person, and 40 people would be $250. Perhaps a family or combination of families would like to sign-up for a particular month...either prepare the entire meal or donate $250. to Radiant Hands to provide the meal.

Please help with cash donations so we never have to refuse badly needed assistance.

7. Insha Allah, a sister from Miami wants to attend her brother's graduation with her parents on May 2 but is not able to stay over in Gainesville.  She and her baby (she has car seat) will have to return to South Florida on May 2 (after noon).  This sister has no objections to riding in a vehicle with a male, provided atleast one other woman would be in the car.  Contact admin@radianthands.org for details/questions ....   Jazaaka Allah

4.          Radiant Hands Accepted into the UFCC!

The University of Florida has a special program each fall called the Community Campaign where employees can designate an amount of their paycheck each pay period to be donated to their favorite charity.

This year, Radiant Hands Inc. has been accepted into the program!

This is great news, as anyone who is working at the university can donate directly to Radiant Hands without any hassle. Even better, it can be done as "before taxes" so your gross income is reduced - hence less taxes!  For those of you working at UF, please keep us in mind as the time to sign up for the campaign approaches.

REQUESTS:

There are several families in Gainesville who, because of medical problems, are consistantly struggling to make ends meet. We would like to be able to provide them with regular support that they can depend on, but cannot do this without your help! We are sending out a special request for monthly financial support so that we can provide reliable assistance to families in dire need. The easiest way to do this is to set up a monthly automatic bank transfer or even make payments via paypal.com. Please consider that for the price of two cups of coffee a week from Starbucks you can make a significant difference in someones life. Remember all donations are tax deductible. Contact one of the board members or send an email to admin@radianthands.org and we will arrange to get the bank information for you.

Radiant Hands will always welcome clean, nearly new baby items.  Contact us at admin@radianthands.org.  Please note: WE DO NOT ACCEPT ADULT SIZE CLOTHES. You may donate those items to Project Downtown (with Islam on Campus) who distribute food, toiletry items, and clothing to people in need each week in the downtown community plaza.

July 21, 2007

Assalama-Alaikum Everyone,

Hope everyone is relishing the Summer Break and having lots of fun.

We recently had a Radiant Hands Meeting on the 15 th of July and for those of you that missed it the following topics were addressed:

As we are there to serve our community, there are times when we are in need of certain Volunteers to help sisters move to different locations. This mostly involves moving furniture, boxes etc. Help is always welcomed and it would be great if volunteers could sign up at the Mosque.

As always we appreciate your continued support for Radiant Hands. We have done much to help our Gainesville community, both Muslims and Non Muslims, and feel that your help has been invaluable in alleviating the suffering of many. As an official nonprofit organization we have made a commitment to help all people in need (man/woman, Muslim/non Muslim) and we greatly appreciate your support in doing so. Our participation in outreach activities (serving food for the homeless, collecting warm clothing for people during winter, and supporting faith-based assistance programs) has also been excellent dawah and we look forward to continuing these efforts. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us!

Sisters in need.

For those of you who wish to donate,  a great way to do so would be Grocery cards, Gas cards and non perishable items. Any sort of help would be deeply appreciated. There are several sisters in need of extra cookware, house items, crib for babies, stationary etc.

If you would like to contribute to our efforts in supporting women, please mail a check to:

March 3, 2007

As Salaamu alaikum Friends

We hope that all of our guests had a wonderful time at the 2nd annual fundraising dinner! The evening was beautiful, the food was delicious, and the prizes were flowing! Although we did not meet our fundraising goal, we were able to collect nearly $4,000 that will be invested back into the community over the next year. Thank you for your support!

At this point in the growth of Radiant Hands we are pleased to move to the next step in the development of the charity, which is to hold our first

ELECTIONS!

As you know, Radiant Hands was established with the intention of encouraging the greatest amount of community participation possible. Now that Radiant Hands has become firmly established, we are happy to take another step towards this goal and initiate the election of the three leadership roles:

Chairperson
Vicechairperson
Recording Secretary

The individuals who are elected to these positions will guide Radiant Hands through one year of community and charitable activities. Please note that the new leadership will not be "alone". The current organizers will continue to manage the legal aspects of the charity, allowing the newly elected board to focus entirely on activities and community development.

At this time we ask for everyone's help to initiate this next step for Radiant hands:

Please submit your nominations of those people, men and women, who have a heart for charitable and community activities, and who you feel would be suited for filling the three positions.

Nominations may be submitted by phone (352-494-1501) or email, and must be received no later than March 16th.

Self nominations are welcome!

After March 16th we will contact the nominees, provide them with detailed descriptions of the positions, and insha'Allah confirm their acceptance of the nomination. This will be followed by elections, which are to be held between March 23rd and April 6th.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your continued support and prayers!
Ma'salaam

August 29, 2006

As always, insha allah this email will find you in the best of health with joy in your hearts.

WE NEED A FEW GOOD COOKS!  Friday the 1st of September is our monthly dinner served at 6 pm at the St. Francis House.  We prepare for 40 very hungry homeless people.  Only drinks and fruit has been donated.  We normally prepare a salad, meat dish, vegtables and pasta (or rice), bread, dessert.  Can you telephone Jean ( 352 219 7941) or email jkr32606@yahoo.com with what you would be able to prepare? Anything is welcome. This meal has been offered to the hungry continously for 3 years now, and we appreciate all of you who have supported this effort over the years.  Jazaaka Allah.

A sister sent this email, which we believe bears repeating and some thought:
Recently the Gainesville Sun newspaper printed an article on the newly found planets by world astronomers.  The article indicates that they are also now contemplating "changing" world astronomy books due to this "situation". The intriguing statement broadcasted in black and white is "the Universe is "indeed" expanding". This very same verse (concept) is in the holy Qu'ran.  It may be worthy of people taking notice as today's society watches these things evolve.

Stay tuned for next Radiant Hands general meeting to be held on Saturday the 17th of September, time and location will be announced in future emails.

A sister shared with us some services that are availble and might be of interest to you and your family.

Assalaamu Alaykum

Dear Friends and Supporters of Radiant Hands, may this email find each of you in the best of health with joy in your hearts.

We shall begin the newsletter with greetings sent from Shiek Sawfat, who sends his regards to everyone in the community, and best wishes to new and returning students. Let us continue to keep Sawfat and his family in our Du'a.

We wish to remind you that Radiant Hands has a storage shed full of barely used (and some new) items -- we are bursting at the seams! We have baby items; tricycle for young child, men, women and children clothing, kitchen items, an apartment size clothes washer, an apartment size refrigerator, child's bedroom furniture, computer (this has been given a new home), tables that can be refinished as a home project you name it, and most likely we have it !! Those who accept these items are allowing those who donate to reap the rewards of giving. You may contact any of the exec board members to make an appointment to look at the items in storage. We are unable to deliver.

There is an upcoming event to which you are invited:
Presentation regarding the national dawah program called: "Why Islam"
Speaker: Br. Mohammad Ilyas, former President of the Islamic Center of Gainesville, current resident of Jacksonville, FL.
Location: Diamond Village Common Room, on the University of Florida campus Date: Saturday, August 26th Time: 2:30 pm
For more information on this program, please visit www.whyislam

Jazaaka Allah

July 3, 2006

Let us start our newsletter with some insight as to what we do with the donations that come to us.  Here is a quote from a recent note fsent to us by a single mother whom we were able to offfer financial aid.  " more than I ever expected and is deeply appreciated.  It's not just the money but the fact that you share my confidence in my ability to improve my situation that means so much to me. ...  I will never forget your kindness".   Our only request of anyone who receives monies from us, is that when their finances improve they donate back so we may help others.  The time has come, sadly for Radiant Hands that we are having to refuse financial aid, and forced to provide less than requested to those in need.  The need is great in our community, and we have met many requests, preventing eviction, satisfying hunger, providing dental work, and much more!  Now we need to replenish our treasury, won't you consider a donation? Small or large, and we are tax deductible. You may mail to PO Box 140661, Gainesville, FL 32614 or use the Pay Pal on our website www.radianthands.org

Two of our sisters mothers are in need of your Dua.  Sister Aqueela's mother is recovering from heart attack and resting at home trying to gain strength to go through yet another procedure.   Jean's elderly mother is recovering in a re-hab center from a severe fall that broke her hip and led to major surgery.  Remember these mothers and all those of our community that serve Allah.

Friday the 7th of July, our needs are filled for feeding the hungry at St. Francis House.  The St. Francis house feeds all without any restrictions to race or religion.  For years now, through the tireless efforts of Amany umm Hattem, these meals have been coordinated and provided in the name of the Muslim Community.  The  St. Francis House has informed us that many donors have stopped providing food and 13 days are available to prepare meals from now through the end of August.  Without donations, the hungry are turned away.  The St. Francis house has kitchen facilities which can be used if preferred for preparation.  Could not 3 or 4 sisters get together and pick one day to provide the meal for the homeless and hungry over the next two months to be delivered to the St. Francis House by 6pm?  You may contact Jean (352 219 7941) jkr32606@yahoo.com for more information.

Speaking of meals, The ICG is still feeding the fasting on Mondays and Thursdays, and are most appreciative of donations of  food or cash.  Why not contact the ICG and see when you could provide a meal for fasting Muslims?

In closing the following quote: The Prophet Muhammad said: '0 people! If any of you possess food. which is more than you require, then he should return it to those who do not have enough for their basic needs. Each and everything given to you is from Allah and the basic necessity should be fulfilled in each and every society'. (Bukhari)

We appreciate all those who help with community efforts.

June 21, 2006

We shall begin with asking your Du'a for Sheik Sawfat who will soon be facing his hearin
